What about the people who can now afford homes? With home prices falling, a whole group of people can now afford homes.
It seems like democrats can only look at people who are victims. How come the democrats never talk about the fact that millions now have the opportunity to buy homes?
Everyone is ignoring the fact that home prices went up way too fast and disproportionate to the economic growth in the country, and were not sustainable. At this point, only about one-fourth of the people in California can actually afford to own a home in the state.
Prices are dropping and need to drop more to bring them more into line to what they're actually worth, versus what their inflated values are based on ';what the home down the street sold for.';
Holy Crap, someone needs to learn not to copy and paste the entire Wikipedia website. How come the democrats never talk about the fact that millions now have the opportunity to buy homes?
Frankly, I think your question ignores a number of important facts.
First, the cheap home loans that these people got into are causing a number of banks to foreclose because the people are unable to keep up the payments. The foreclosures are a significant part of the looming recession in which everybody loses. In short, this wonderfull ';opportunity'; you speak of is about to turn all of us into victims.
Who would want to brag about that?
The numbers of people that can afford to buy homes is down.
Your question is skewed.
You're ignoring that foreclosures are way up.
And that home buying is way down.
And that many who bought homes a few years ago face the dilemma of a house that is worth less and forced to sell because they no longer can afford it.
There are many victims and putting out a skewed fact is not facing reality.
The economy sucks, period.

Sub-prime mortgage rates ruin lives. I do not think a lot of home buyers have any idea what they are getting into.
Actually they don't. Where do you get your distorted information? I make 41,000 a year and live by myself. i take home 2,000 after a 15% paycheck drop in my Savings plan, taxes, social security..etc.... I cannot afford a 1,500 dollar house payment where i live and hope to live off of 500 dollars a month.
Let alone pay for Health Insurance, Dental or anything else besides food and gas to drive to work.
I cannot take my 15% saving funds away because right now, im paying for Social Security which i wont see when im 65 years old or higher. I have to struggle and invest for my future alone I guess... I am 26 years old
So they can line up a whole new set of victims.
I know what you mean, I held off buying at that time and now it looks like they want me to help save those who made stupid finance decisions.
Are you seriously telling us you think the sub-prime meltdown is a good thing?
And since median wages have fallen under Bush's presidency and poverty grown, it is going to take a lot more than this to allow the ';poor'; to buy houses.
because your statement is a fraud. try and get a home loan...restrictions are tighter than they've been in years. and those who would be likely to qualify are holding off in anticipation of home prices continuing to decline.
are you kidding me? where is your compassion man? A lot of people got ripped off by lending companies, and who's going to buy the houses? The price is down because no one is buying.
The foreclosure market is controlled by greedy
sleazeballs, who are just looking for quick turnover,
and a healthy profit. Yes, people will eventually buy
these houses, but they will probably overpay. Most
of the time these homes have been trashed by the
owners who were foreclosed upon, and are neglected
while in the possession of the foreclosure kingpin.
It is far from an ideal healthy housing market.
And, oh by the way, many Republicans will be losing
their houses also. Your statement about Democrats
only looking for victims is pure BS.
show me ONE republican who has said that...its not just dems...
its a fairly heartless argument.
I guess that's one way to look at it. Yeah millions of foreclosed home now available, for some odd reason this just doesn't sound positive to me.
yeah and the people who didn't loose their homes their house now cost less then what they paid for them, thats great isn't it?
