They MAY get double paid, and it's quite legal. For the $2,150 you are paying, you are ONLY buying their agreement to end your lease contract early, with no further ado or legal action. What they do with the premises AFTER your lease is terminated is none of your business. Your lease is over.Breaking lease contract due to buying home, does this mean they will get double paid?
Many states specifically forbid charging two tenets at the same time. If you were forced to pay the remainder of your lease, and really that is common, your landlord can't rent the appartment till the term of the lease is up.

your talking about sub leasing. You should be able to rent the place out and then pay the Landlord for the rest of the contract. Check out www.craigslist.com

They are only supposed to charge you the months that are left, and they are supposed to do whatever ';legally'; needs
to be done before a new tenant moves in. The new Tenant
has nothing to do with your payment and Landlords like it
when Tenants break leases, it is an advantage to them.
